Grant writing and conservation content for environmental organisations — delivered with the rigour of an engineer and the conviction of a conservationist.
What we bring
About
Sam Picken · Founder
I spent ten years in the aerospace sector calculating stress tolerances, writing technical documentation, and solving complex systems problems. Engineering teaches you to think in failure modes, in cause and effect — to ask not just what is happening, but why, and what happens next.
Then I looked up from my desk and realised we were applying none of that rigour to the most complex system we depend on: the natural world. So I enrolled in an Environmental Science degree, and Fieldwork Conservation was born.
I work with conservation organisations in the Midlands and beyond — helping them secure the funding they need and communicate their impact with clarity and confidence.
Services
Full grant application writing for conservation organisations — from initial funder research and shortlisting, through to narrative, budget justification, and impact frameworks. Targeting Born Free, Darwin Initiative, National Lottery Heritage Fund and more.
Not sure which funders to approach or when? I'll map out a funding landscape tailored to your organisation's work, size and location — identifying the grants most likely to succeed and building a realistic application calendar.
Clear, evidence-based reporting that satisfies funders and tells your story compellingly. Written with the same precision I'd apply to aerospace technical documentation — because your conservation outcomes deserve to be taken seriously.
